Joyce Spivey, of Severna Park, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2021 at the age of 81.

Joyce was born to Robert and Elizabeth Coppedge in Atlanta, GA, and soon moved to Albany, where she was raised with her two younger sisters. After a wonderful upbringing there, she graduated from Georgia State University, where she met Gerald Spivey. They were married and did a tour in the Army at Fort Sill, OK, and Fort Bragg, NC, before moving back to Atlanta, and subsequently Severna Park, MD in the early 1970s.

Through more than 60 years of marriage, they were blessed with 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. An amazing grandmother, Gammy Joy was often found playing games, attending sporting events, band concerts and just genuinely doting on her beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. All knew undoubtedly that they were loved unconditionally.

Joy had a passion for family and will be remembered for her welcoming and loving presence. She was at her happiest with a house full of people, always happily serving large meals and creating delicious desserts. Through the years, Joy and Jerry's house was a home away from home for many where everyone always felt welcome and showered with love. Her ability to make others feel special was truly a gift.

Joy is survived by her husband, Jerry, children Cathy (Gary) Wingate, Julie (Jim) Gfrerer, Cristie (Ryan) Nolan, Robert (Gillian) Spivey and David (Kate) Spivey, grandchildren Scott (Claire), Michael (Amanda), Miseker, Katie, Emily, Abbey, Sara, Matthew, Hunter, Chase, Bea, and great granddaughter, Leona, along with her two sisters, Evoline Coppedge and Beth (Gary) Hedrick.
