Joseph John Walsh, 87, a 40-year resident of Severna Park and formerly of Rockville, died May 1 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Walsh was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Aug. 6, 1919, and reared in Pittstown, Pa. He graduated from Lackawanna Junior College and served as a master sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a civilian administrative officer with the Department of Defense for 33 years.

He was a longtime member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park. His interests included golf and watching sports, especially the Orioles.

His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gerry Pugliese Walsh; two daughters, Sharon Walsh of Germantown and Maura Walsh Arndt of Millersville; one son, Michael J. Walsh of Severna Park; and four granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. John The Evangelist Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
