Joseph Paul Summers, of Hanover, Maryland passed away on February 26, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on June 17, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland to Mildred (Petryszak) and Joseph C. Summers. He was the oldest of three children. Joe, or Joey, as his mother called him, graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Baltimore.

He married his high school sweetheart, Dawn K. (Jacob) Summers on November 15, 1980. They were married for 40 incredible years. Joe worked for the transportation company, Johnson & Towers until his death.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He loved traveling and exploring new places with his family and friends. He enjoyed his work and he enjoyed spending time with his friends; his humor was infectious to everyone he met. Most recently, Joe loved taking Dawn on quarantine excursions to Wye Island and Blackwater Wildlife Refuge so they could walk through nature together. But most of all, he loved being a husband, father, and PopPop. It cannot be mistaken how much Joe adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than putting a smile on his family's faces.

Joe is survived by his wife, Dawn and their two children and their spouses; his daughter, Michele (Summers) Welborn and Mark Welborn; his son, David Summers and Katelyn (Fawley) Summers. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren; Madisyn and McKinley Welborn and Colin and Connor Summers. He is also survived by his younger siblings and their spouses; James Summers and Debbie Summers, and Kathy Randlett and Ken Randlett as well as his aunt and uncle, Paul and Sharon Petryszak. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held in mid-June. Details will follow. Because Joe loved coaching David and Michele's sports teams, and loved being a PopPop to his four grandchildren, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in his name.  His memorial fund can be found at: http://giftfunds.stjude.org/JoeSummers
