Joe Reger passed peacefully early in the morning of December 9, 2014 at FutureCare Chesapeake where he had been a resident since June.

Joe was born in Baltimore on April 30, 1923, one of four children of Frank and Isabelle Reger (nei Daughney). Shortly after graduation from Mt. St. Joseph High School, he enlisted in the Navy. Joe was a boxer and remained undefeated for his Navy team during his entire service including a tour in Europe where he flew missions from bases in England. After his discharge Joe obtained a degree in Accounting from the University of Baltimore and joined S.S. Pennock Co. where over the next 30 years he moved steadily through management of the Baltimore Branch and eventually became the corporate treasurer of the largest international wholesale Florist Company in the world. Along the way Joe founded such events as Daffodil Day which served as a way to promote the flower industry in America and raise money for the American Cancer Society. Joe was also one of the original leaders of FTD and served as the group President in the 70s.

Joe and his first wife, Mary Eleanor (Ellie) Anzer were married in 1947 and moved to Linthicum. There they raised two sons, Joe Jr. and Mark. Originally a member of Holy Trinity parish Joe was on the founding committee to establish St. Phillip Neri in Linthicum. As his sons attended Mt. St. Joseph, he joined the father's club and eventually was elected president in 1969. After Ellie passed away in 1986, Joe traveled the world going to many exotic places and meeting with contacts he had developed in the flower business. During this time Joe continued to develop Daffodil Day and through these efforts he met Rita Steslow, who he would marry in 1991. They continued to travel extensively.

In 2013 they moved from Linthicum to Heartlands in Severna Park were Rita still resides today. Joe is survived by Rita and his son Mark. Joe has two granddaughters, Stephanie Jane of Arnold, and Jessica Marie of Hanover, Pennsylvania, as well as 5 great- grandchildren.

Joe was a wholesale florist for 40 years, so flowers are appropriate and appreciated. However, he was also a great supporter of the American Cancer Society if you would prefer to make a donation you may do so at: American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718,Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
