Joseph R. Holland, 69, of Severna Park, died March 3 at home after a nine-month illness.

Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Plainville, Ind., the son of Alvin and Ester Wade Holland, Mr. Holland graduated from St. John's High School in Loogootee, Ind. in 1955 and Indiana University in 1962. Mr. Holland served in the Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1959. He retired from the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md., where he worked from 1964 to 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann-Marie Holland of Severna Park and Catherine E. Holland of Columbia, Md.; and two sisters, Mona Siedel of Washington, Ind. and Sharon Hedinger of Hart, Mich. He was the brother of the late Doris Greenwell and John Holland.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 668 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Burial will follow in Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Crownsville.
