Joseph Patrick Bent, 60, of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away on December 7, 2025, at Anne Arundel Medical Center, surrounded by his family, after a three-month battle with lung cancer.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Joseph—known to family and friends as Joe—was raised in Relay, Maryland, and spent his life rooted in the communities of Relay, Violetville, Severna Park, and Davidsonville. For the past five years, Davidsonville had been the place he proudly called home.
Joe was awarded a baseball scholarship to Mount Saint Joseph High School, from which he graduated in 1983. He went on to build a devoted and distinguished 33-year career at Williams Construction Services as a crane operator. Known for his skill, dedication, and pride in his work, he was a respected member of his union and his field. Outside of work, Joe enjoyed music, carpentry, cutting the grass, and solving any problem that came his way—always with a cold Heineken in hand.
On November 14, 1992, Joe married the love of his life, Deborah Avioli, and together they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his children, Alex Avioli-Bent and partner Jonathan Bark, and Andrew Avioli Bent and partner Maddie McPeters; his siblings, John and Cassandra Bent of Baltimore, MD, Michael and Deborah Bent of Baltimore, MD, Kathleen and Steve Ross of Nashville, TN, and Anthony Bent of Blythewood, SC; and two cherished grandchildren, Natalie Frances and Logan Tyler.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Francis and Frances Ann Bent.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna park, MD 21146 with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation, a cause close to Joe and his family.
Joe will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering work ethic, deep devotion to his family, and the quiet strength that guided him throughout life.
