Jonathan German
Jonathan Charles "Buck" German, 85, of Arnold, died July 10 at his home.
Born Sept. 2, 1920, and reared in Baltimore, Mr. German was the son of Bertram Boone Sr. and Helen Grace German and a direct descendant of Thomas and Elizabeth Lindstead Boone of Severna Park.
He served during World War II in the 28th Marines, 5th Division, at Saipan and was a survivor of Iwo Jima, where he witnessed the raising of the U.S. flag at Mount Suribachi and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was employed as a liaison by Baltimore Gas & Electric Co.
Mr. German was a member of College Parkway Baptist Church in Arnold, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening and sports.
He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Bertram Lee Boone II, former Maryland secretary of state.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Pauline E. German; two daughters, Kaye German of Glen Burnie and Jacqueline Kramer of Baltimore; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
