John Smith Wornom, dearest husband and father, passed away peacefully due to complications of old age on Friday, January 1, 2010 in the home of his son John Franklin Wornom who had faithfully cared for him the last days of his life.

John was born November 4, 1913 in Dare Virginia, son of Charles Benton Wornom, Mary Elizabeth Smith, and Stepmother Annie Moore. John married Sarah Lillian Martin October 28, 1932. John and Lillian had a poultry business in Dare Virginia and then John owned and managed the Wornom General Store for seven years. During this time, John was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts and loved working with the boys. Following a one year project with Kellog Construction in Toledo, Ohio, he then worked for Kennecott Copper Refinery in Maryland until he retired. John and Lillian were avid square dancers for over 30 years and loved traveling. After Lillian passed away, John continued to dance all over the world; twice on the wall of China. He loved traveling the world to places including Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. He traveled the country in his motor home and enjoyed attending church everywhere he went. He was a man of great faith, loved photography and fixing things. He was well known for his positive attitude and his love for his family.

John is survived by his sons John Franklin and wife Nancy of Severna Park, Md; Paul Benton and his wife Carol of Pasadena, Md; and his daughter Jane Elizabeth and her husband Tim of Waverly, Iowa; and his sister Rose Wescott of Yorktown, Virginia. He was loved by his 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian and his son Eugene.
