John Stanislaus Walter passed away on July 6,2026 after an extended illness.

John was born on July 22, 1932 in Baltimore, MD to Emma (neé Braun) and John S. Walter. He grew up in Baltimore and attended McDonogh School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

John served for 21 years in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after being stationed in many states, including Alaska and Washington, as well as tours in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam (War). Following his military career, he worked for Anne Arundel County as the Head Engineer for another 20 years. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife of 42 years, Ann (neé Fisher), who predeceased him.

He is survived by his daughter, Claudia Teague of Texas; his sons Jeff Walter of Connecticut, Phil Walter of Indiana, and Ken Walter of Hawaii; his step-daughter Sue Oster of Arnold; his ex-spouse Lois Reynolds of Severna Park and his niece Kathy Phillips of Maryland; as well as six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit on Friday July 17th from 4-7pm at Barranco Funeral Home, Severna Park MD 21146. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Anne Arundel County Animal Shelters or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
