John Thomas "Jack" Fitzsimmons passed away peacefully on September 5, 2019 at the age of 86. Born on June 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Edith Fitzsimmons (Burkman) and James Fitzsimmons. He was married 61 years to the late Mary "Gene" Harding. He is survived by his 3 children: Carolyn Frye (Marty), Vickie Fitzsimmons, and John Fitzsimmons, Jr. (Dawn). He was lovingly called Poppop by his seven grandchildren: Jennifer O'Hare (Patrick), Beth Hunt, Matthew Hunt (Kerry), the late Jaclyn Hunt, Mark Baer (Katie), Taylor Fitzsimmons, and Jake Fitzsimmons, and four great grandchildren: Chloe, Vann, Paige, and Corinne, who he loved spending time with. Jack was the youngest of fifteen. He is survived by four sisters: Peggy Bradley, Gertrude Shaver, Agnes Eakle, and Betty Hamby and preceded in death by brothers Buck, Francis, Jamie, Leo, Barney, Eddie, and Billy and sisters Rita Guertler, Sister Marie Victoria, and Edith Hawkins. He worked for the C&P Telephone Company/Verizon as a cable splicer for over 35 years and retired as a manager at the age of 57. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand and was known for his warmth and friendliness. His hobbies included playing golf, boating and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay, and gardening. He especially loved doing things with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm and 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146. A funeral mass will be held the following day, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 10:00 am at Saint Jane Frances De Chantal Catholic Church , 8499 Virginia Ave, Riviera Beach, MD 21122. The burial will be private.
