John Townsend Stone, 79, of Severna Park, Maryland passed away on September 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on September 30, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, the only son of John T. Stone and Mary (neé Chadwick) Stone. He grew up in Philadelphia, and attended Archmere Academy and West Catholic High School.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1973.

John lived in Springfield, PA, Avalon, NJ, and Wilmington, DE, before settling in Severna Park, MD. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-two years, Rosalie Rambo Stone, who was the love of his life.

John is survived by his cousins, Richard Pfau of Millersville, MD, William Chadwick of Severna Park, MD, Eileen Chadwick Sloan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Kathleen Chadwick Kuehnle of Oxford, OH; and his long-time companion, Sally Rose of Garnet Valley, PA.

John loved fishing, woodworking, and biking. He had a deep appreciation for nature, culture, and family life, which he expressed in numerous essays and memoirs he shared with friends and family.

John will be missed by all who knew him for sharp wit, his sense of humor, and his general love of life.
