IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John B.
Shub
August 2, 1942 – December 7, 2022
John B. Shub, of Annapolis, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, in Annapolis, MD. He was born on August 2, 1942, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Silver Spring, MD. John graduated from Blair High School in 1961. During his senior year, he began dating his classmate, Louise Parks. John and Louise celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary earlier this year.
John worked for the Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco), starting as a high voltage cable splicer and ending his 35-year career with the company as a technical trainer. He also served as a union steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
After retirement, John spent 12 years as a commercial waterman, selling the rockfish, crabs and other delicacies he pulled from the Chesapeake Bay to seafood markets in and around Annapolis. An officer with the Anne Arundel Watermen's Association, John also enjoyed fishing as well as deer and waterfowl hunting as a hobby, both in Maryland and in locations around the world. When he wasn't out on his beloved boat, "Decoy," John could be found tending to his bountiful vegetable garden; spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; riding around the Burley on his Gator sharing stories and wisdom with neighbors; or having a drink with friends at Cantler's.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Flora Shub; his sister, Loretta Ostmann; and his brother, Samuel Shub. He is survived by his children, Bonnie Shub-Gayer (Gary Gayer) and Larry Shub (Kristen); his grandchildren, Joe (Elizabeth), Adam (Molly) and David Shub, and JD Gayer; and his great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lane and Miles Shub.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday December 15, 2022 from 10:00am-11:30am with a memorial service to follow at 11:30am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
