John Louis "Jack" Selby of Tilghman Island, Maryland, former resident of New Carrollton, MD, died Monday, April, 3, 2017, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Born Jan. 27, 1936, in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., he was the youngest son of Joseph Carroll Selby and Mary Josephine Ritenour.
Prior to his retirement in 1998, Jack was employed as a printer for the University of Maryland's, Agricultural Duplication Service in College Park, for 20 years. Previously, he was an offset pressman for the now defunct Metropolitan Lithograph Company in Bladensburg, MD. From 1955-1959, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio intercept operator in Bremerhaven, Germany. He attended Kramer and Souza Junior High Schools, and Anacostia High School, all in Washington, D.C. Jack was a family man who enjoyed many sports including bowling, golf, softball and roller skating. He was an avid, lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins.
He was preceded in death by his six brothers: Joe Jr., Frank, Dick, Pat, Norman and Frederick.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Schenk Selby; two sons, John S. "Steve" Selby and daughter-in-law, Lisa Kelly Selby, of Sasebo, Japan; and Frederick A. "Andy" Selby, of Chestertown, MD; his daughter, Lauren Selby Tracey and son-in-law, Tony Tracey, of Stevensville, MD; granddaughter, Samantha M. Tracey; grandson, John P. "Jack" Selby; and his sister, Mary Ann Selby Clunk, of Orlando, FL.
