John Thurman Ruark, 91, a residence of Severna Park for over 60 years, passed away on October 31, 2016 at Kris-Leigh Assisted Living in Severna Park.
John was born to his parents, Thurman and Matilda Ruark on May 25, 1925 in Hoopersville, MD. Raised in Brooklyn, MD, he was a graduate of City College and later studied Electrical Engineering. He was employed as a Manager with Westinghouse for many years, where he later retired from. In addition, John served in the Navy during WW II.
Mr. Ruark was a member of the Elks Club, Bay Hills Golf Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed boating, golfing, fishing, and snow skiing. He loved sports.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his brother, Vernon Ewell Ruark; and his sister, Dorothy Lee Jump.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda M. Kiser of West River; his son, John Louis Ruark of Stevensville; his grandson, Samuel James Ruark of Stevensville; his brother, Edgar Phillips Ruark of Centreville; his sister, Eva Joyce Ruark-Deems of Belair; and his son-in-law, John W. Kiser of West River.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 9-10:00am with a service to start at 10:00am at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Interment at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
