John Frank Rickert, 90, a resident of Arnold, MD since 1953, died on September 24, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, due to complications from heart surgery.
He was born on September 16, 1919 in Munich, Germany, moved to Baltimore when he was 9 years old, and served in the Army during WWII.
Mr. Rickert was a structural engineer with several prominent Baltimore firms prior to starting his own business, John F. Rickert P.E. Incorporated. He provided engineering services for numerous commercial and residential building projects in the Baltimore and Annapolis area.
He was an avid sailor, built catamarans, enjoyed classical music, playing the piano, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Erwin Rickert and his parents, Karl and Franziska Rickert.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathleen (nee Hanlon) Rickert of Arnold, three sons, Karl Joseph Rickert of Towson, John Michael Rickert of Arnold, and Stephen Charles Rickert of Pasadena, one daughter, Deborah Ann Rickert of Arnold, five grandchildren, Katie, Jenny, Brian, Natalie, and Colleen; and two great grandchildren, Liliana and Alejandro;
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Baltimore National Cemetery.
