John Allen
Nye
October 11, 1949 – March 20, 2026
John Allen Nye was born in Akron, Ohio, and spent his early years in Tallmadge before moving to Maryland in 1959. He grew up in Catonsville, where he graduated from Catonsville High School in 1967. He later served his country with honor in the United States Army as a Vietnam War veteran.
John was the owner of Fine Homes, Inc., where he built a respected career constructing custom homes and renovations throughout the county. He was especially known for the custom woodwork that distinguished his homes, reflecting both his craftsmanship and attention to detail. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built along the way. He was a mentor to his nephews in the trade. He will be deeply missed by his longtime friend and former business partner, Steve Dowling.
John had a wide range of interests and a personality that left a lasting impression. He loved making a good deal and could often be found buying and selling on eBay or exploring flea markets in search of his next find. He had a fascination with helicopters and a passion for classic cars—especially Mini Coopers and Porches. Having always lived near the water, John found great joy in boating and crabbing, as well as spending time at family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Nye Sr. and Mary G. Nye, and his brother, James P. Nye.
John is survived by his beloved daughter, Christina Alisa Nye, and his two cherished grandchildren, Lumen Meadow and Island Tristan of Bar Harbor, Maine. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Ann Leake; his sister-in-law, Gloria Nye; and his brothers, George A. Nye Jr. (Mary C. Nye) and Danny R. Nye. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who will always remember his strong work ethic, his unique sense of humor, and his ability to fall asleep just about anywhere—even on a hardwood floor.
