John Albert Norville was born in 1936 in San Diego, CA. John moved with his Navy family over 50 times around the U.S. He was active in Scouting – Cubs, Life Scout, Explorer Scouts, Order of the Arrow honors, God & Country award. A graduate from Brevard High School (Brevard, NC) in 1954 with Honors, he attended Duke University on an academic scholarship and graduated with Honors from NC State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering. He received an MBA from George Washington University in 1968 and in 2002 a D.B.A from elsewhere.

In college he was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society & later Baltimore Alumni Chapter President. He was in Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Honor fraternity, and Alpha Phi Omega Scouting fraternity. He was Chairman of the American Society for Quality Baltimore Chapter.

He married the late Erna “Bebe” Davis in 1961, with whom he had a son Bruce Dunham Norville who survives him, now an artist in Florida. After an amicable divorce he married Kathleen Trevitt of Stoneboro, PA in 1971. She taught public school for 30 years in Maryland and later taught at Anne Arundel Community College for 10 years. Kathy remains active in the Baldwin Memorial Methodist Church and many other activities, that they both helped support.

John served eight years in the US Naval Reserves as an Electronic Technician Petty Officer and in the Security Group. He served briefly aboard a PCE, a DD, & a CVL aircraft carrier. He received an Honorable Discharge.

He retired in 1995 after working at Westinghouse Defense for 37 years, including being a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer & promoted to a Department Manager in Quality Assurance for 20 years. He then did management consulting for several years, focusing on quality control issues.

John was raised in Masons in 1966 and belongs to the York Rite, Scottish Rite, & Boumi Shrine. He played drums for 50 years with various groups, including the Pascal Go-Getters. John had a life-long love for music (jazz in particular), dining, wines, & politics.

John is a long-time Director of their neighborhood association, Shipley’s Choice Community Association, and with the Greater Severna Park Council. He was Chair of various committees in these organizations. He is Past Director of AARP Glen Burnie Chapter, four (4) Republican Clubs, and twice appointed by the Anne Arundel County Executive to the seven (7) member Anne Arundel County Planning Advisory Board.

John resided, with his wife Kathy who survives him in Severna Park, MD since 1980.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday April 1, 2026 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Services will be held on Thursday April 2, 2026 at 11:00am at Barranco Funeral Home. Interment at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery.
