John Francis Naughton, 90, died October 12 at The Severna Park Center Nursing Home of heart failure after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Naughton was born in Lafayette, NY on June 15, 1918. He graduated from Manhattan College in New York City with a degree in civil engineering and received a law degree from Fordham University in New York City.
Mr. Naughton worked at WVA Pulp and Paper in NY, Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Schenectady, NY, Bettis Atomic Lab in Pittsburgh, PA and Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Linthicum, MD.
On November 22, 1941, Mr. Naughton married the former Mary Louise Murphy who passed away in 1994 after 52 years of marriage. Survivors include four children, William Naughton of Northbrook, IL, Anne Allera of Gaithersburg, MD, Kathleen Sullivan of Millersville, MD, and John Naughton of Glen Burnie, MD; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Naughton was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Severna Park where he was a member of the Parish Council, Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. In 1981, he was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church, becoming the first lay deacon for St. John's.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 15 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P. A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, MD.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday, October 16, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park, MD.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
