John Edward Mesich, 81, of Severna Park, died Dec. 27 at North Arundel Hospital after a short illness. He had an infected gall bladder.
Mr. Mesich was born May 18, 1923, and reared in Catlin, Ill. He previously lived in Chicago, Fort Worth and Detroit before coming to Severna Park about 20 years ago.
He attended Texas Christian University and served in the Marines in the Pacific theater of operations from 1941 to 1945.
Mr. Mesich worked as a distribution engineer for Sinclair Refining, which became ARCO. Following retirement, he drove a school bus for Anne Arundel County.
He was a member of Chartwell Country Club and Severna Park United Methodist Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Severna Park Assistance Network and was a World War II history buff. He also enjoyed golf and garage sales.
Surviving are his wife, Colette Johnson Mesich, whom he married Dec. 18, 1952; one daughter, Tracy Prettyman of Severna Park; one sister, Mary Neitzelt of Georgetown, Ill.; and one granddaughter.
He was the son of the late John and Anna Mesich and the brother of the late Angeline Mariage and Katie Wendt.
Memorial visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Barranco and Sons Severna Park, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will follow. Burial will be private.
