John Edward Marshall, a longtime resident of Arnold, Maryland, passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on September 15, 1946, in Arnold, John was the son of the laste Edward John Marshall and Alverta Saffield. Arnold was more than simply the place John lived- it was home. It was where he was raised, built his life, and raised his family with his beloved wife, Sandra.
John and Sandra were married on February 5, 1978, beginning a marriage that would span nearly five decades.
A skilled automobile mechanic, John devoted 38 years to Fox Chevrolet. His career reflected his character: he understood how things worked, valued a job well done, and took pride in his trade. Through many years of service, he earned the respect of those who knew and worked with him.
Outside of work, John enjoyed camping and boating. He also had a deep love for animals. Above all, however, he cherished his family. Some of the happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Lee Marshall; his children, Tammy Kendall, Sherrie Marshall, Brandie Marshall, Robbie Newton, Ricky Newton, and Jaimie Newton; his brothers, Wayne Marshall and Charles Marshall; 18 grandchildren ; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward John Marshall and Alverta Saffield; his brother Donald Marshall; and his sister, Peggy Crandall.
John will be remembered for his lifelong connection to Arnold, his dedication to his work, his enjoyment of the outdoors, his compassion for animals, and most of all, his devotion to his family.
Funeral and memorial arrangements will be handled by Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Severna Park, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association in John’s memory.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday September 5, 2026 from 9:00-11:00am at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park MD, 21146, with a Funeral service to begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be private.
