John Boyd Larson, 83, a resident of Chartwell in Severna Park, MD for over twenty four years, died at his home on July 3, 2009 due to cancer.

Mr. Larson was born on December 11, 1925 to Carl J.E. Larson and Lillian G. Nelson Larson in Kansas City, KS, where he was also raised. Prior to moving to Severna Park, Mr. Larson also resided in Detroit, MI, Indiananapolis, IN and Simsbury, CT.

Mr. Larson graduated from University of Missouri Kansas City with a degree in Law. He worked for AETNA Insurance Company for 20 years. In addition, Mr. Larson was a fire control officer for the federal government in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Larson served in the Army during World War II where he was a Cryptographic Tech 805, a Sharp Shooter 03, and a rifleman attached with the Armored Signal Corps-153. His duties were in Rhineland in Central Europe. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, AM Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, WW II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

Mr. Larson enjoyed collecting and repairing watches and clocks.

Mr. Larson is survived by his wife, Dolly Hilda Wellfonder Larson, whom he married in 1964; his daughter, Dolly Ann Coburn and son-in-law, Robert L. Coburn of Columbus, NC; his sisters, Joy Cottrell of Lee's Summit, MO and Janita Peterson of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

A memorial service will be offered on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 6:00pm at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church 400 Benfield Road Severna Park, MD. The interment will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville on a later date.
