John Joseph "Jack" Kenny, 69, of Arnold, died of cancer March 29 at home after an 18-month illness.

The son of John and Sophia Kenny, Mr. Kenny was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Baltimore, where he graduated from Loyola High School in 1955. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Loyola College in 1959 and his certified public accountant degree in 1960. He received his certified management accountant, CMA, certificate in 1974.

Mr. Kenny served in the Army National Guard for five years.

He worked as an accountant for Haskins and Sell and several local firms before establishing his own practice, which he maintained for more than 30 years. He served as adjunct professor of accounting during the 1970s and 1980s at Loyola College, Anne Arundel Community College and Bowie State. During that time, he taught CPA exam prep courses and coached and mentored students. He also supported the cooperative education programs for the county, providing technical training and practical job experience for several students.

He helped establish the Anne Arundel County Chapter of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and served as the group's president from 1981 to 1982. He was also a member of the National Association of Accountants.

His interests included volunteering for community activities, including serving on the board of Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Paula T. Kenny; six children, M.J. Kenny of Cambridge, Mass., James Kenny of Annapolis, Claudia Kenny of Chatham, N.Y., Andrew Kenny of Ellicott City, Matthew Kenny of Rio Nida, Calif., and Peter Kenny of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Thomas Kenny of Fallston and Patrick Kenny of Baltimore; one sister, Arlene Marconi of Fallston; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. Burial is private.
