John Harvey
John Robert "Bob" Harvey, 84, a 20-year resident of Arnold, died Nov. 29 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a short illness.
Born on Feb. 13, 1923, in Belfonte, Pa., Mr. Harvey was the son of the late Effie and Oscar Harvey. He was raised and educated in State College, Pa., and lived in Livingston, N.J., before he retired to Arnold.
He worked for the Livingston Board of Education for 25 years.
During World War II, Mr. Harvey served in the Merchant Marines and was awarded the Merchant Marine Combat Ribbon while serving aboard the SS Samuel Parker Liberty.
An animal lover, Mr. Harvey enjoyed taking walks in the park with his dog. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting antiques and attending flea markets. He was a Penn State football fan and enjoyed NASCAR.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Harvey; and one sister, Madelyn Giesler.
Survivors include two sons, Leo and John Harvey Jr. of Arnold; one daughter, Jeanette Stangle of Arnold; and two grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway S.E. in Severna Park.
Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
