John Haller

John Frederick Haller, 78, a resident of Severna Park for over 22 years died at his home on April 25.

Born on February 7, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was reared in Garden City, N.Y. He graduated in 1952 from Western Maryland College and earned a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1954.

Mr. Haller served two years as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army, primarily as a staff officer in an ordnance battalion stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He then began his 25-year banking career in an officer training program at Irving Trust Company on Wall Street in New York City. After 15 years at Tappan Zee National Bank in Nyack, N.Y., he transferred to Chemical Bank in Pelham, N.Y., where he was branch manager until his retirement in 1985.

On Oct. 22 1960, he married Linda Margery Hall of Washington, D.C. Survivors include three daughters, Karen Haller of Lewes, Del., Anne Gowdy of Phoenix and Jennifer Moore of Gilbert of Arizona; one son, John Haller of Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Elizabeth Guthrie, of Vienna, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Barranco & Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday.

A memorial service at the funeral home will immediately follow the visitation. Interment will be at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
