John Gavlak
John Thomas Gavlak, 62, of Severna Park, died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, Nov. 12 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1944, in Windber, Pa., Mr. Gavlak was reared in Portage, Pa., where he attended Portage Area High School.
He was employed as a senior engineer-programmer for Computer Science Corp.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portage.
His interests included woodworking, working on and restoring automobiles and carpentry.
Surviving are his wife, Dianna Erickson Gavlak, whom he met in high school and married in 1964; two daughters, Cindy M. Wasilewski of Royersford, Pa., and Kristine G. Amendola of Westminster; one brother, William Gavlak of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Suzanne Kittell and Elaine Zajac, both of Portage, and Ethel Myers of Cresson, Pa.; and two grandsons.
Services and burial will be held in Portage. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home..
