John Joseph Flood Jr. (also known as Jack or Gramps), 87, of Severna Park passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 2, 1926 and was a son of the late John J. Flood Sr. and Loretta Leroy Flood.

Mr. Flood graduated from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades in New York, New York. After graduating high school he attended Boro Hall Academy in Brooklyn, New York. Due to WWII he put school on hold to enlist in the Army. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army serving between August 1, 1944 and January 15, 1947. During WWII he was in the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe Campaign and the Rhineland Campaign. During his time in the Army he received an American Theatre Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, 3 Battle Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge, an European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and the Bronze Star. After discharging, he then attended Panzer College of Physical Education and Hygiene in NJ for two years before transferring and graduating from New York University in 1951. On August 8th 1953, he married the former Kathleen Ann Fitzgerald. He went on to get his Master in Education in 1954 from New York University. After completing his education he began work as a physical education teacher and coach in the Baltimore area. He decided during an interview when they asked him "how many games will you win this year?" that this was not what he wanted to do. He began working in recreation at Aberdeen Proving Ground, working his way up to Chief of Morale, Welfare and Recreation for the Department of the Army. He was responsible for the morale, welfare and recreation needs of Army bases worldwide, retiring in March of 1985 after 33 years. On April 4th 1987, he married the former Ruth Amanda Geiger Ramagnano. Until his health declined in recent years, they skied and traveled throughout Europe and the U.S. visiting family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Ruth A. Flood of Severna Park, MD, a daughter Kathleen Bradford (Dennis) of Cambridge, MD, two grandchildren Sarah and Kenneth Bradford of Cambridge, a sister Lorraine Gallagher of Sayville, NY. Also, a stepson Kevin Ramagnano of Severna Park, MD, three grandchildren Cristina Ramagnano Speaks (Neil) of Kansas, Joseph Ramagnano of Kansas and Cathi Ramagnano of Severna Park, MD, three great-grandchildren Logan, Cole and Megan Speaks of Kansas, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Flood was preceded in death by his first wife Kathleen A. Flood and a granddaughter Mary Katherine Bradford.

A Memorial Service will be Celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 11:00 am in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be private.
