Dorothy and John Monaco

Dorothy Henrietta Corcoran Monaco, 88, of Annapolis, died of heart failure March 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Her husband, John Francis Monaco, 87, died of heart failure April 3 at the Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Monaco was born March 6, 1918, and Mr. Monaco was born Dec. 25, 1918, both in Washington, D.C. The couple was married on Jan. 2, 1939, and lived in Clinton and Waldorf before coming to Annapolis in 2005. They enjoyed playing bridge.

Mrs. Monaco also liked baking, sewing and ceramics. She moved to the Severna Park Center, Genesis ElderCare Network for rehabilitation in November 2005.

An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Monaco was a master plumber. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He also was an avid fisherman and boater.

Surviving are their daughters, Darlene Monaco of Millersville and Cherie Myers of Prince Frederick; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Monaco also is survived by one sister, Charlotte McChesney of West Virginia. Mr. Monaco also is survived by two sisters, Cecelia Garcia of New Carrollton and Patsy Simms of East New Market in Dorchester County; and two brothers, Joseph Monaco of New Carrollton and Anthony Monaco of East New Market.

A memorial service for the couple will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial will be private.
