John was a resident of the community Bay Hills in Arnold, MD for over 50 years (1970-2021) before his health took a turn for the worse. Neighbors would always see him working in the yard or going on walks through the neighborhood.

John attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and night school at Johns Hopkins University, all in Baltimore, MD.

He served in the Naval Reserve for 8 years and was chosen as the "Most Outstanding Reservist" in the Baltimore area in 1960. If you knew John, you are not surprised by this.

John worked as a land surveyor for several private civil engineering firms as well as for the Anne Arundel County, dept. of Public Works in Maryland. He also worked as a planner for the A.A. County Planning & Zoning Office. It was here where John hit his stride. He loved it and excelled.

In 1972, John was one of the founders of Anarex, Inc., a Development, Surveying & Engineering Company in Severna Park, Maryland.

John earned his Professional Land Surveying License in 1973. Anarex (short for ANne ARundel EXpeditors) expanded to 40 employees by 1980, and he continued on as President until retiring in 2005.

John was a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, the Anne Arundel County Homebuilders Association, the Society of Professional Land Surveyors, and the A. A. Co. Trade Council.

His interests included gardening, bowling, the Orioles, the Baltimore Colts and Ravens and watching endless episodes of Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raimond on TV. He also loved traveling with his wife Patricia to their other homes in Ocean City, MD and Sarasota, FL.

Preceding John in death were Patricia A. Butschky, his loving wife of 59 years, and son Kevin J. Butschky.

John is survived by his son Douglas J. Butschky of Pasadena, MD, daughter Julie A. Swain of Arnold, MD, sister Christine Janus of Fallston, MD and 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 9 to 34.
