John Michael Bistrian, Jr., 69, of Pasadena, died at Baltimore Washington Medical Center on February 7, 2012 due to heart failure.

John was born to his parents, John and Lucille Bistrian on June 13, 1942, in Southampton, NY, and grew up farming in East Hampton, NY. A graduate of East Hampton High, John continued his studies at Stony Brook University (SUNY) where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and later earned a Master's Degree from MIT in Ocean Engineering. He was employed as a marine and acoustic engineer at Westinghouse and Northrup Grumman.

Mr. Bistrian served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1967. His past residences include: Antigo, Wisconsin, St. James, NY, Fairbanks, Alaska, Boston, MA, and since 1974 Gibson Island and Pasadena, MD. He worked for over 30 years for Westinghouse and Northrup Grumman as an ultrasonic flowmeter engineer. His work took him to New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Surinam, Scotland, France, England, Germany, British Columbia, in addition to many electric and nuclear power plants all over the U.S. He also enjoyed working on the construction of the Alaskan oil pipeline.

He was a member of the New Covenant Church in Arnold. He enjoyed fixing tractors, lawn mowers, Tonka trucks and cars. He was known as a "Mr. Fix It" by his neighbors, holding court daily in front of the garage fielding questions on engine repair and life in general. He loved his family, his church, all things John Deere, and gardening.

Mr. Bistrian was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Bistrian. His is survived by his wife, Frances Michael Bistrian (nee: Steele); his daughters, Tama Bistrian Toledo (Pablo) of Salinas, CA and Sara Bistrian Park (Thomas) of Annapolis; his brother, Michael Bistrian of East Hampton, NY; his sisters, Lucille Baldwin of Saint James, NY and Karen Sexton of Indianapolis, IN; and his granddaughter, Katarina Toledo, as well as countless family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Sunday, February 12th from 5-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:30 at the New Covenant Church, 365 Jones Station Rd. Arnold, MD 21012 with the interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
