John Stephen Alt, Sr, 78, of Grasonville, died suddenly of natural causes on October 31, 2011, at FutureCare Chesapeake in Arnold.
He was born on September 25, 1933 in Baltimore, where he was raised, and graduated from Calvert Hall High School. He has lived in Grasonville since 1979 and also lived in Millersville.
He was employed as an Electrical Inspector with Anne Arundel County until his retirement.
John was a volunteer with the VFW in Grasonville and Thunder on the Narrows Boat Races and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Severna Park. He enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Erna Alt.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sophia E. Alt (nee Bierbower) of Grasonville; his children, John S. Alt, Jr. of Greensboro, Margaret C. Blann of Millersville, and Robert W. Alt of Dundalk; one sister, Margaret Snyder of Annapolis; one brother, Francis Alt of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 10:00 am-11:00 am at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grasonville Memorial Post 7464 VFW, 203 VFW Avenue, Grasonville, MD 21638-1355.
