Joanne Watkins

Joanne Barbara Raymond Watkins, 66, of Pasadena, died of cancer April 27 at her home after a six-month illness.

Mrs. Watkins was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the daughter of Dalton J. and Doris Carberry Raymond. She attended Genesee, N.Y., High School and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Fairmont, N.Y.

She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Watkins of Minden, La., in 1960 while she was a hostess with the Syracuse USO and he was stationed in that city with the Air Force. They were married in Baltimore on March 11, 1962, at the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They resided in Maryland continuously since 1963 where she raised two sons.

Mrs. Watkins enjoyed collecting decorated tins and shopping for her family and was known as an astute bargain hunter. She also enjoyed sightseeing, traveling and caring for her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert "Bob" Watkins of Pasadena and Steven "Rusty" Watkins of Arnold; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Dalton and Peter Raymond of Syracuse; and three sisters, Nancy Lambert of Fabius, N.Y., Linda Lumis of West Haven, Conn., and Mary Pepin of Syracuse.

Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com .
