Joan Macht (Jody) Wray, 87, a resident of Severna Park for the past 53 years, died peacefully in Hospice at Baltimore Washington Medical Center on November 1, 2011 following complications from a cerebral stroke.
Born in Kentucky just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Jody was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secretarial Science. Her career saw service with the Department of Defense and for lawyers in private practices, but was mainly focused on raising four children.
Jody married her college sweetheart William Wray (d. 1999) in Ohio. They lived for a short while in Virginia, elsewhere in Maryland, but mostly in Severna Park. Jody enjoyed golfing at Bay Hills Golf Club and volunteering with Partners in Care. She was active in the Unitarian Church, the Ladies of the Elks, the Arundel Carvers Club and in her local community where, for years, she published the Hollywood Chatter, a light-hearted monthly paper of local events and happenings. In her later years, she was an avid bowler and wood carver.
Survivors include three sons - William Wray Jr. of Silver Spring, Richard Wray of Glen Burnie, Robert Wray of Shelby NC, one daughter - Molly Winkler of Severna Park, and six grandchildren - Daniel Wray, Esther Wray, Sarah Wray, Matthew Winkler, Jason Winkler, and Wesley Winkler.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 333 Dubois Road in Annapolis MD 21401. November 20 at 1:30 PM. Burial will be private.
