IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan H.
Legnard
July 17, 1931 – August 22, 2023
Joan (Volpatt) Legnard was born into a loving Italian family on 7/17/1931 in Pittsburgh, PA. She died peacefully, at home 8/22/23. Joan learned to cook and sew from her mother. She was her father's princess, and her brother, Ray's biggest fan. She attended St. Justin's Grade School and High School where she developed her strong Catholic faith, a faith that would be a lifelong guide and comfort.
She met her future husband, "Gib", at St. Justin's. Joan and Gib lived a wonderful life, moving to California and Connecticut during Gib's career before settling in Annapolis. They enjoyed many golf trips, beach vacations, European travel, and beautiful homes. Joan enjoyed the gifts of jewelry romantic Gib often gave. She did not enjoy however Gib's culinary preferences. They made a great team!
Joan's children, Carol, Linda, Paul, and Meribeth would describe her as loving, dedicated, and simply inspiring! She cooked delicious family feasts for 20+ well into her 80's. Joan attended thousands of athletic events in support of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren—whether she knew how the sport was played or not. She was an intense scrabble player and often won"big money" at bridge. At any gathering, Joan was always elegant, the prettiest and most fashionable.
Joan passed the family value of loving support on to three generations. She will be remembered and celebrated for many years to come by her 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. We love you Gigi!I
A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated on Friday August 25, 2023 at 1:00pm at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church 701 College Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 21409.
