Joan Flohr Kerrigan, 92, a resident of Severna Park and previously of Virgina Beach, VA died peacefully at Spring Arbor Assisted Living on September 16, 2023 where she spent the last years of her life. Born on November 29, 1930 in Seattle Washington, she was the only child of the late E. Firmin and Ann (Nicholson) Flohr.
Joan studied at Sweet Briar College in Virginia for 2 years before finishing her degree in Sociology at the University of Washington. She was happily married to Robert Kerrigan for 59 years prior to his death in 2016. She was a military spouse who had many adventures in Bahrain, Monterey and San Diego, CA, Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, FLA, Newport, RI, Springfield, VA and after Bob's retirement from the military, Virgina Beach, VA.
She was an amazing watercolor artist and avid knitter. She enriched the lives of her sons by being involved in their many sporting activities. She loved travel, time with family, good food and a good martini. Her home was always open to family and friends. Joan is survived by her 3 loving sons Michael (Luanne) of Salem, SC, Peter (Robin) of Woodland Hills, CA, Martin (Kesa) of Derwood, MD and a daughter Jan Fischer (Wolf) of Loveland, CO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren Joseph (Jennifer), Jacob, Liam, Devon, Alexander and Chloe. She is also survived by one great- grandchild Oliver.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor for the great care and kindness they gave Joan for the last 7 years. They would also like to thank Griswold Home Care in Severna Park for the wonderful aides that provided Joan with additional support. A special thanks to the Hospice of the Chesapeake who over the last year provided Joan with compassion and care.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held in the summer of 2024 in Virginia Beach, VA.
