On December 4th, Joan Cavey Fielder - devoted wife, and mother of three, passed away peacefully at her home of 64 years in Severna Park, at the age of 86.

A resident of Severna Park since 1952, Mrs. Fielder was born to William and Ruth Cavey on May 14, 1935, in Baltimore. She attended Baltimore public schools through 11th grade, when her family re-located to the shore of Cattail Creek in Severna Park, where she developed a love for swimming, crabbing and fishing. She graduated from Annapolis High School in 1954. Soon after, Joan met the love of her life, E. Dwight Fielder. After a 2-year courtship, Joan and Dwight were married on May 19, 1957.

After starting her family, Joan left her job at Nationwide to immerse herself completely into motherhood. She had an outgoing, yet nurturing demeanor, with an instinct to make even the simplest events memorable. Joan had an inviting nature, and quickly "adopted" any friends of her children, or grandchildren. She truly lived by "The more, the merrier!".

Mrs. Fielder was a mainstay at all athletic fields, school auditoriums, etc....she NEVER missed a ballgame, dance recital, band concert - of not only her children, but also her grandchildren. She talked endlessly about her grandchildren to anyone who would listen! Her influence on her children and grandchildren is immeasurable - she made special efforts to impart values such as kindness, sacrifice, and service to family.

Joan's hobbies and interests included reading, good music, dancing, day trips and travelling, crocheting, water aerobics, shopping, and lunch with her friends. She was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles, attending many games, and she loved vacationing in Ocean City for many years. Joan was ALWAYS up for a spontaneous road trip - if one of her children or grandchildren came by, she was ready and out the door in two minutes. She loved cooking for her family - her crab cakes and country crab soup are legendary.

Joan lived a lifetime of service to not only her family, but also gave countless hours of her time volunteering in school PTAs, Girl Scouts, Green Hornets athletics, Band and Athletic Boosters, and St. John's Church. She was well known as one of the finest baseball scorekeepers ever!

Mrs. Fielder is survived by her husband of 64 years, E. Dwight Fielder, her three children, E. Dwight Fielder, Jr. (E.Lynn Burkett), Dale Fielder-Rodriguez (Roddy), and Daniel F. Fielder (Kathy). Also surviving Mrs. Fielder are six grandchildren, Emily Yakel (Zach), Geoffrey Rodriguez, Stuart Rodriguez, Kelsey Mills (Jack), Daniel C. Fielder, Dalton Fielder; one great grandson, Adam Yakel; a brother, William F. Cavey, Jr. (Joyce); and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Ruth Cavey, and a sister, Etta Insley. The Fielder family wishes to extend special gratitude to John S. Insley, Sr. and Bill and Joyce Cavey for their unwavering support.
