Joan M. Duncan (nee McCune) passed away on Monday June 7, 2021.

She was born to Isabelle M. McCune (nee Clem) and Allen F. McCune in Pennsylvania on November 18, 1932 as Shirley Joan McCune, but throughout her life she was known by many names. Called Joanie by family and friends at a young age, and in high school she was given the nickname Cindy by the man who would later become her husband, which was short for Cinderella since she had to be home by midnight. After marriage she went by Joan officially, but was still known as Cindy to all of her friends. Later in her life, she became Nana, to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cindy graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1950 and afterward she worked as a legal secretary, and in 1975 she and her husband purchased 28 acres of land in Anne Arundel County, MD and spent two years building Duncan's Family Campground. After her divorce, she continued to run the campground for almost 25 years before selling it to her daughter, Laurie Duncan. Cindy was a member of Severna Park United Methodist church for many years before she moved away from the area

Cindy loved to sing and sang in her high school chorus and church choir. She sang in the choral group, The Harmonizers, at Charlestown Retirement Community later in her life. Cindy liked to knit and sew and passed these skills onto her children and grandchildren. She loved cats, playing cards and Bingo, bird watching, and gardening. She adored her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Cindy always made the choice to find joy even during difficult times and to find the bright side of even the darkest situations. The smallest things could make her happy and she loved seeing these qualities in her family.

Cindy was pre deceased by her parents, her oldest son, Mark Duncan and her sister-in-law, Joanne Duncan. She is survived by her oldest daughter Jennifer Tilles (Dave) of Woodstock, MD, her daughter Laurie Duncan of Phoenix, AZ, and her daughter in law Sharon Duncan, of Annapolis MD, and her 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 21st, 2021 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A., 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, MD 21146.
