Joan Marie Baker (D'Ambrosio) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025 at her home in Gambrills, Maryland.
She was born & raise in Washington, DC where she graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1954 & went to work for Atomic Energy (now Department of Energy). She married Richard Ford Baker in 1956 and they moved to Hyattsville, Maryland before buying their home of 41 years where they raised their 3 children in Takoma Park.
Joan worked at University of Maryland, University College for many years before retiring in 2004. After retiring she lived in Forest Hill & Millersville before spending the last 10 months being adored & having the time of her life at Regency Park Assisted Living Community in Gambrills.
She organized & ran a youth bowling league; she was always present as a field trip mom & a volunteer at Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School while her daughters attended school there.
She was an avid football fan, loved socializing with her friends, & traveling to Arizona to visit her beloved sister Nancy.
She is survived by her daughter Deena Hahn, son Anthony Baker, son-in-law Brian Hahn, several nieces, nephews, cousins, & many close family friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Dominic, & Adell M. D'Ambrosio, her brother Daniel J. McQuaid, her husband Ford Baker, her daughter Donna Parsons, & her sister Nancy Becker.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday September 24, 2025 from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Thursday September 25, 2025 from 10:00am -11:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146.
