Jo Anne Pittaway passed away on January 1, 2015, after a brief illness. She was born in 1930 to her parents Guy and Josephine in Topeka, Kansas, where she grew up in the house her father built. Her only brother, Jack, preceded her in death in 1992. She attended Highland Park High School and Washburn University in Topeka before marrying Alan R. Pittaway in 1950. She then lived in Kansas City, Kansas, where she had three sons. The family moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1961, and then to Severna Park, Maryland in 1973, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She took an active interest in politics and was for many years the President of the Severna Park Republican Women's club. Later in life she worked for the Anne Arundel County Public Library system, where she took delight in bringing to work farm implements from her girlhood to see if urban library visitors could identify what they were used for. She remained active and alert her entire life and took pride in continuing to reside in her house in Severna Park.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, David and Jeannine, Richard and Nancy, and Scott and Beth, and by seven grandchildren, Catie, Mark, Brian, Grant, Sean, Dustin, and Cody, as well as her faithful feline companion Maggie the Cat.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 3, for friends and family, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park, Maryland. Donations can be given to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
