Jo Ellen Humphries Brewton passed away on April 5, 2023. She was born to George Edward Humphries and Joan (nee Heidler) Humphries on December 17, 1953 in Alton, Illinois. Jo Ellen was raised in Schenectady NY, Pittsburgh PA, and Severna Park, MD. She attended Wake Forest University for her Undergraduate education, and the University of Pittsburgh for both her Masters in Social Work and Masters in Exercise Physiology and finally she attended Duke University to study Integrative Medicine. She was married to Stephen M. Brewton on August 15, 1975. On January 3, 1981 Jo gave birth to their precious son John Andrew.
Throughout her adult life, she lived in Winston Salem, NC, Pittsburgh PA, Sandwich, MA, and Annapolis MD. Throughout her career she worked at Magee Women's Hospital as a Medical Social Worker, the University of Pittsburgh as a Diabetes Preventionist, and at R.G. Brewton Inc. as the Executive V.P./Owner. She was a member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church and of the National Association of Social Workers.
Jo treasured this world. She worked arduously to take care of her health and all that came with that in her life. Jo loved her family and her friends more than anything. Jo always knew how to listen and what to say. She loved all the wonderful places she was able to visit with Steve and John. She adored all 9 of her dogs. She valued spirituality, education, reading, art, travel, music, children, friends, interior design, Cape Cod Wildlife, stars, science, and her family.
Jo Ellen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Steve Brewton of Annapolis, MD; her son John Andrew Brewton of Towson, MD; her sisters Kristin Leach of Arnold MD, Deborah Gruen, of Arnold MD, Sarah French of Easton MD, and Laura Bernstein and her husband Buddy of Columbia, MD; her mother in law Doris Brewton of Pittsburgh PA; her sister-in-law Beverly James and her husband Dick of Seattle WA; and her brother-in-law David Brewton and his wife Barbara of Pittsburgh PA.

Her Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday May 20, 2023 at 11am at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be private.
