Jerry J. Ditzel, 66, a resident of Severna Park, died on November 7, 2009 at home after a 2 ½ month illness, due to a brain tumor.

He was born June 6, 1943 in Baltimore, where he was raised and graduated from St. Martins High School and the University of Baltimore.

He served in the Army Reserves from 1966-1972. He was a member of Kappa Omega Fraternity, a member of Lakeland Boys, Bay Hills Golf Club and Sparrows Point Country Club. He enjoyed playing poker with the "Newcut Crew", formerly enjoyed sailing, swimming, and horseracing.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, November 12, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, November 13 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be private.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Peggy Ditzel of Severna Park; a daughter, Rebecca L. Allender of Millersville; one grandson Kellen "Brick" Allender; son-in-law, Judd Allender of Millersville, and two brothers, Leroy Arthur Ditzel, Jr and Ronald Paul Ditzel, both of Booth Bay, ME.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at the Heartland Hospice, 4 E Rolling Crossroads, Baltimore, MD 21228 or to St. John the Evangelist School, 689 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146.
