Jeri Lynn nee McElroy Spates, 54 died suddenly March 18, 2013, of a massive Pulmonary Embolism.


She was born March 12, 1959 at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. Jeri was raised in Severna Park where she lived until her death. Jeri also lived in Frederick after marrying her husband in 1991. She was a 1977 graduate of Severna Park High School. She then attended the University of Maryland majoring in Education.


At the time of her death, Jeri was a Behaviorist Assistant in the Special Education department at Chesapeake Bay Middle School. Prior to that, Jeri enjoyed being a stay at home mom. She also was a Senior Customer Service Associate at Bank of America for a dozen years based primarily in the Columbia area. She loved all crafts, especially sewing and scrapbooking. She was very artistic. Jeri was known to thoroughly enjoy reading a good book. She also was a lover of the water enjoying time in and on the Severn River and at Ocean City.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Jim and their two children, Michael 14 and Elizabeth (Lily) 11 and her sister, Cynthia McElroy of Alexandra, VA. She is also survived by her heart sister, Katey and countless family and friends.

Family and friends will be received at Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park, MD 21146 on Friday, March, 22, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 10 am at St. John's Catholic Church, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD 21701.
