Jeffrey C. Reynolds, a Korean War veteran and longtime reporter and editor for the United Press International, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 of complications from pneumonia at home. He was 85.
A longtime resident of Severna Park, MD, he lived in Ijamsville on a former Christmas tree farm.
Mr. Reynolds retired from UPI in 1996 as a national desk editor. He had earlier served in reporting and management positions in Miami, Richmond, VA, Baltimore and Annapolis. He worked for several newspapers in Florida and Arizona before joining UPI in Miami in 1967.
He served with the US Army 45th Infantry "Thunderbird" Division in Japan and Korea in 1951-1952 and was part of a mission that helped establish the Peace Village at Panmunjom. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge for action in the Chorwon Valley.
He was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of Theodore and Katie Reynolds and graduated from the old Nott Terrace High School there in 1948. He briefly attended Paul Smith's Junior college in Saranac Lake, NY, before joining the army in 1951. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1959.
Kathryn, his wife of 43 years and the sister of a combat buddy, died in 1998. He is survived by two sons: Wayne of Gloucester Pt., VA; Gregory, of Severna Park, and daughter Tracey (Thomas) of the Ijamsville home. He also leaves five grandchildren: Ashley and Tristan of Melbourne, Australia, Lauren of Columbus, Ohio, and Christopher and Katerina of Ijamsville.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 12 noon at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
