Jean R. Hawkins, a resident of Sunrise in Severna Park, MD passed away peacefully on April 24, 2019.

Jean was born to Eleanor (Townsend) and John B. Rogers on March 15, 1931 in Baltimore, MD. She was reared in Severna Park, where she lived for the majority of her life. She went on to live in Whispering Pines, NC, Berlin, MD and Easton, MD before making her way back to Severna Park.

Jean attended Annapolis High School and Southern Seminary Teaching College. She taught school and worked as a customer service representative for several years. She married James William Hawkins on February 4, 1956.

Jean was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church, was active in the Alter Service Ministry there, and actively participated in the local meals on wheels. She enjoyed traveling, sailing, water activities, sewing, needlepoint and knitting. First and foremost, Jean was a caring and devoted mother and wife.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; and her elder sister, Eleanor Kramer.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James W. Hawkins of Sunrise in Severna Park; her daughter, Kathleen Spence (Steve) of Westminster, MD; her daughter, Patricia Parsons (Dave) of Severna Park; her son, James Hawkins, Jr. "Jimmy" (Sherry) of Severna Park; her grandson, Nicholas Spence of Pasadena, MD; her nieces – Sally Sachse (Bert) of Severna Park; Barbara Kramer of Rural Hall, North Carolina; Cathy Kramer (David) of Easton, MD; great nieces – Becky White (Paul) of Scottsdale, AZ; Sarah Hayden (Gerald) of Huntington, MD; and Abbie Smothers (Justin) of Walnut Cove, NC.

A very special 'Thank You!' to the wonderful staff of Sunrise in Severna Park and associated caregivers that took loving care of Jean for several years and continue to care for James.  You are all truly a blessing from God!

The memorial service will be private.
