Jean Rossiter Friday, died Friday, February 26, 2010 after suffering a massive stroke 2 days prior.
Born in 1928, an accomplished fine artist and a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art, she lived almost her entire life at 248 Cypress Creek Rd. She was known in many social circles, one being her community of the Cypress Improvement Association where she served as President and then as a Board member for many, many years. She left a legacy of service that will not be forgotten.
The dog world was another place where she left a prominent mark. Owning a kennel, she trained and handled dogs at shows for nearly all of her life. Boxers, Korgies, and most recently Goldens are the breeds that come to mind when one thinks of Jean and her dogs. She handled champions in the show ring, and later made wonderful family companions out of the Goldens who did not make it to the show ring.
An avid member of the Anne Arundel Photography Club, Jean caught the beauty and gentleness of these dogs in her photography. She had the rare privilege of being an artist behind the camera as well as with oil paints and clay. Many of us have admired the paintings and sculptures prominently displayed throughout her home.
Perhaps the most distinct aspect of Jean was her personality. She would say it like it was and as a result she had many friends who knew they could rely on her word and trust her loyalty. She will not be forgotten as she has impacted many organizations and individuals' lives. Jean is survived by her daughter, Pam Friday, and her granddaughter Ashley Reidy.
An Open House Memorial will be held Sunday, March 7 from 1:00 to 5:00 at Jean's home in Severna Park, MD.
