Janet Claudette Hance Summerville, 71, of Millersville, Maryland, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 29, 2026.

Born to Claude Hance and Mildred Woodward, Jan grew up in Millersville and graduated from Arundel High School. She married Richard Summerville in 1977 and they shared 36 years of marriage. Jan is preceded in death by her husband Rick Summerville, her sister Joan Hutchins and brother in law Chuck Hutchins. 

Jan was known for her kindness and caring nature, always putting others before herself. She enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and spending time with her grandchildren. Later in life, Jan found a loving partner in Joseph Blood. They spent 10 years enjoying companionship, beach trips, and laughs.

She is survived by her son Dan Summerville, his wife Stephanie; her grandchildren Daniel and Stephen Summerville; her long time loving companion Joseph Blood; sisters in law Laurene Ryan(Jim), Cheryl Summerville(Wayne Boulden); five nieces and nephews, seven grand nieces and nephews, and one great grand niece.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm with a service to follow at 3:00pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care,P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. Burial will take place at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery on Monday August 31, 2026 at 1:45pm in Crownsville MD.

In leu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Cure Alzheimers Fund or the Dementia Society of America.
