Jane Stuart Basil (nee Parker) passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, at age 93. She entered Heaven to meet her Lord Jesus Christ face to face. She was also greeted by her dear husband Irving, family, friends and heavenly hosts who celebrated her arrival. She leaves behind her three children, Irving Thomas Basil Jr., Mary Lorraine Brown, and Leslie Jane Payne, their spouses, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also close in heart were her nieces Sally Steelman and Stephanie Muszelik, and her cousin Sudy McKnight.

Jane Stuart was born January 20, 1932, to the late James and Janie Parker, and raised in Washington DC with one sister, the late Katherine Parker. At age 16, Jane Stuart met Navy veteran Irving Basil of Baltimore while swimming at a community beach on the Severn River. They married May 10, 1952 and enjoyed 54-years together, living mostly in the Villa Nova neighborhood of Baltimore County until Irv's death in 2006.

At age 30, after years of acute emotional distress, Jane experienced a profound Christian conversion. As she once wrote about herself: "Up until this time Jesus had been a mythical character in an irrelevant book. Now he became my Lord and God." She began a lifelong commitment to devotional Bible reading. A member of Baltimore's Milford Mill United Methodist Church (UMC) for more than 50 years, she was active in various prayer and Bible study groups, Lay Witness Mission weekends, and befriended many young adults in need. She was a full-time homemaker throughout her married life, known for many acts of kindness to those around her.

Jane and Irv enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, canoeing, hiking, biking, square dancing and travel. When Irv became a United Methodist pastor after his retirement from Westinghouse, Jane joined him in ministry at Wilton Heights UMC in Pimlico, and Mt. Zion UMC in Finksburg.  For her last 12-years Jane Stuart lived in Severna Park, closer to her children. Her family is especially grateful to Heartlands Assisted Living which cared for so well for her during her final years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday May 10, 2025, at Crosspointe Church, 365 Jones Station Road, Arnold, MD 21012.  Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a luncheon after the service. On Monday May 12, 2025, at 12:00 noon, interment will occur at Lake View Cemetery, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.
