James H. Coomes, Sr., 77, a resident of Severna Park, died suddenly on September 30, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
He was born on November 09, 1931 in Adams County, PA, where he was raised, and was the youngest of thirteen children. His past residences include in Baltimore and Millersville.
Mr. Coomes served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was with the Military Police and was a Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne.
He was employed at Whiting-Turner and Bethlehem Steel and was a certified scuba diver and certified welder. He was a member of Local 101 and a scuba diver for the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel.
Mr. Coomes enjoyed working around the house and yard and spending time with his family and granddaughter. He loved to play the piano and go to car shows.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred C. Coomes.
Survivors include a his son, James H. Coomes, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Irene Coomes of Crofton, MD; one granddaughter, Isabella Coomes of Crofton, MD; one brother, Carroll Coomes of Arnold, MD; two sisters, Phoebe Gervasi of Arnold, MD and Virginia Rosskopf of Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Hwy in Severna Park. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11: 00 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD.
