James Garland "Scoop" Sakers, 79, a resident of College Park, MD, passed away on December 22nd, 2023 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Spa Creek.

He was born on August 7, 1944 in Salisbury, MD, where he was raised. He moved to Cape Arthur in Severna Park and graduated from Severna Park High School.  Jim received his Bachelor's Degree from University of Maryland College Park and was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, where he served as a Regional President for over 30 years. He was a Chapter Advisor at University of Maryland College Park, Towson University, Johns Hopkins University, and Frostburg University. Jim was a lifelong member of the Terrapin Club at University of Maryland.

Jim worked as a Clerk with the United States House of Representatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Meta Sakers.

Jim is survived by his sister, Joan S. Vosbury of Arnold, MD; one niece, Tammy Anne Vosbury of Crownsville, MD; and one nephew, Christopher David Vosbury of Glen Burnie, MD.

Committal services will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at 12:00 noon at Wicomico Memorial Park, 721 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury MD.   A reception will follow at 1:30pm at the Salisbury Elk's Lodge #817, 401 Churchill Ave, Salisbury, MD.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Carrol's Creek Cafe, 410 Severn Ave. Annapolis, MD 21403 on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
