James Moss
James Marion "Jim" Moss, 62, a resident of Arnold for 32 years and previously of Drexel Hill, Pa., died April 12 at his home after a seven-year illness.
Born in Fort Lewis, Wash., on June 12, 1943, Mr. Moss graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and received his bachelor of science degree from Emory and Henry College in Virginia in 1967.
He worked for the Virginia State Corrections Department as a social worker from 1967 to 1969 and then for the U.S. Treasury Department's Customs Service in Philadelphia from 1969 to 1974. He served in its Baltimore and Annapolis Parole and Internal Affairs section from 1974 to 1986 and then worked for the department's agency service in Washington, D.C., from 1986 to 1995. He retired as chief of special operations and senior special agent who specialized in drug enforcement and covert installations.
He was an expert marksman and was a longtime member of the Natinal Rifle Association.
Mr. Moss was treasurer of the Staunton Military Academy Alumni Association, president and vice president of the Ocean Villa Condo Association and founder of the National Association of Technical Investigators of America.
He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.
His interests included boating, electronics, model trains, Civil War history, genealogy and marksmanship.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa McGuire Moss, whom he married Aug. 27, 1966; two sons, Matthew McGuire Moss of Asheville, N.C., and Jeffrey Bybee Moss of the home; two brothers, Dr. William W. Moss of Bradenton, Fla., and Dr. Robert Moss of Spokane, Wash.; and one grandchild. He was the father of the late Meredith Ava Moss.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
