James Robert Stuart McCartney passed from this life July 2, 2013.
He was survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Marlis (Maria-Luise) Tinsley McCartney; his children Margaret McCartney-Duffy and husband Michael Duffy, Janet Parkinson and husband Dougald Parkinson; stepchildren Stephanie Bolvin and husband Thomas Bolvin, and Alexander Tinsley and wife Julie Tinsley. He also leaves his grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, and Katherine Duffy; Harry and Lindsay Bolvin; and Damien Tinsley. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, June McCartney, and his sister, Anne.
Born in Scotland in 1925, Jim was evacuated to the United States during World War II and lived in Cambridge, MA. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Bard College, he became a food scientist and received his master's degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He worked on developing coffee and rice products for General Foods and Seagram's. Later, Jim owned an art gallery in Newport, RI. Jim travelled the world with his wife Marlis and had wide-ranging interests in art, from Inuit sculptures to Southwestern rugs and Jackson Pollock. He was a proud Friend of Bill W's for 29 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10am at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1110 St. Stephen's Church Road, Crownsville, Maryland. A private interment will take place in Norfolk, Virginia.
